Tharindu was elevated to the distinguished Fellow grade of membership of Engineers Australia (EA) on 25 January 2024. Fellowship represents the highest level of membership within Engineers Australia and is awarded only to professionals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, expertise, and contribution to the engineering profession.
He also attained the prestigious Senior Member grade of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) on 14 August 2021 — a significant milestone in his professional journey. Globally, only around 10% of IEEE members are recognised at this level, which reflects outstanding professional experience, technical competence, and meaningful contributions to the engineering community. It is the highest membership category that an IEEE member can apply for.
Tharindu holds dual Chartered credentials from Engineers Australia:
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in Project Management (2021)
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in Information and Telecommunication Engineering (2025)
He is also recognised by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) as a Certified Professional (CP), the society’s highest professional credential.
Marking another major milestone, Tharindu achieved Chartered Engineer (CEng) status through the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Engineering Council UK, in July 2026. This accomplishment places him among a very small number of engineering professionals and possibly the only one to date, to have earned full Chartered credentials from three distinguished engineering bodies:
On 13 May 2022, Tharindu was conferred the International Professional Engineer (IntPE) post‑nominal by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka. He is the first Software Engineer and only the second Computer Engineer in Sri Lanka to receive this highly prestigious international credential.
In addition, he was awarded several further professional credentials by Engineers Australia in 2024 and 2025, marking continued recognition of his leadership, expertise, and contribution to the engineering profession
Moreover, he was awarded the following credentials by Engineers Australia in 2024 and 2025.
